TREND ANALYSIS OF MIGRATION DATA IN THAILAND 2019-2023 12 RECENT INTERNAL MIGRATION FLOWS FIGURE 13: RECENT INTERNAL MIGRANTS BY PROVINCE OF ENTRY PER YEAR, HIGHLIGHTING GREATER BANGKOK AREA The survey analysed the proportion of recent internal migrants by province of entry and province of exit. The provinces in Greater Bangkok Area were highlighted as many had some of the highest proportions of migrants entering and exiting. The largest share of recent internal migrants entered Samut Prakhan (12.2%) in 2019; however, this proportion drastically decreased from 2019 to 2020, with a trough at 3.2 per cent in 2020, and only reaching a similar level to 2019 level again in 2023. With regards to the provinces of exit, recent internal migrants tended to leave Bangkok despite a 47 per cent decline in exits between 2021 and 2022. Samut Prakhan was also a more common province of exit, in addition to being a province of entry.
