Thailand’s Public Administration has three tiers of government: Central Administration, which comprises ministries and bureaus; Provincial Administration, which comprises 76 provinces excluding Bangkok; and Local Administration, which comprises provincial administration organizations, municipal administration organizations, district administration organizations, Bangkok and Pattaya Special Administrative Area. Bangkok plays as the centre of public administration of the country, is the capital city and the largest city of the country. Climate The local climate is tropical, characterized roughly into three seasons. The period of the hot season is during mid-February to mid-May. The highest temperature is in April. The rainy season is rainy and cloudy from the tropical monsoon zone of Southeast Asia from mid-May to mid-October. Then it turns moderate to cool until February. Except for the southern region, where it is hot and humid throughout the year; therefore, there are only 2 seasons: the hot season and the rainy season. Transport Transportation in Thailand is mainly based on land transportation. The main highways in Thailand are Phaholyothin road, Mittraphap road, Sukhumvit road, and Phetkasem road and there are also Intercity Motorways, namely Bangkok - Chon Buri - Pattaya and Bang Pa-In - Nakhon Ratchasima. In addition, there is public transportation in major cities such as fixed-route buses, trains, sky trains and also private automobiles such as taxi, motorcycle taxi and Tuk-Tuk, the most popular among foreigners. Rail transport: the total distance of rail infrastructure is 5,584.11 km., divided into the intercity rail distance of 5,306.27 km and urban rail (Bangkok and vicinity) distance of 277.84 km. The electric train system are sky-train or BTS, subway or MRT, and Suvarnabhumi Airport Rail Link. Rail links to neighboring countries, namely, Malaysia and the Lao People’s Democratic Republic also operated. -14-
