In 2025 , the total number of buddhist monks nationwide was 236,652 , representing the lowest number during the four-year period and a decrease of 3.66% ( 8,993 people) from the previous year. Similarly, the number of novices stood at 28,988 , declining by 9.05% ( 2,885 people) from the previous year.
