The National Statistical Office (NSO) has collected data on household income and expenditure since 1957 . The survey was originally known as the Household Expenditure Survey. In 1968–1969 , it was renamed the Household Socio-Economic Survey (SES) and was conducted every five years. Subsequently, pursuant to the Cabinet resolution of 8 September 1987, the survey frequency was changed to every two years in response to the rapid expansion of the country’s economy, so that the Government could use the data as a basis for formulating policies to address poverty. However, given the rapid and volatile changes in the country’s economic and social conditions, together with the continued increase in household debt, the NSO has conducted the SES annually since 2006 . In even -numbered years, the survey covers the module of household income, expenditure, and debt, whereas in odd-numbered years, it covers the module of household expenditure only. The survey covered all private, households residing in all provinces, and also in both municipal and non-municipal areas (excluding diplomats households, foreign delegates and other temporary residents ). Including the private households living in the institutional place for example, private households living in a dormitory, hospitals, etc .
