กา รสํา รวจการ ใ ช้พลังงานใ นครัว เ รือน สํานักงานสถิติแห่งชาติ ได้จัดทําครั้งแรกเมื่อ พ.ศ. 2527 ตามความต้องการของสํานักงานคณะกรรมการนโยบาย พลังงานแห่งชาติ เพื่อใช้ในการวางแผนและกําหนดนโยบาย ด้านพลังงานของประเทศ ซึ่งในเวลานั้นได้ดําเนินการสํารวจ ไปพร้อมกับการสํารวจแรงงาน และได้สํารวจต่อเนื่องกัน 2 ปี ต่อมาในปี 2529 ได้ผนวกข้อถามการใช้พลังงานไว้เป็น ส่วนหนึ่งของแบบสอบถาม ค่าใช้จ่ายของโครงการสํารวจ ภาวะเศรษฐกิจและสังคมของครัวเรือน ซึ่งโครงการ ดังกล่าวนี้ได้ทําการสํารวจทุก 2 ปี และตั้งแต่ปี 2549 ได้มี การดําเนินการสํารวจทุกปี ซึ่งเก็บรวบรวมข้อมูลจาก ครัวเรือนตัวอย่างในทุกจังหวัดทั่วประเทศทั้งในเขตเทศบาล แล ะนอก เ ขต เ ทศบาล ( ยก เ ว้น ครัว เ รือนทูต ผู้แทน ต่างประเทศ และผู้อยู่อาศัยในประเทศไทยชั่วคราว) ซึ่ง ข้อมูลดังกล่าวนําไปใช้ประโยชน์ในการวิเคราะห์ข้อมูล ค่าใช้จ่ายด้านพลังงานของครัวเรือน The Household Energy Consumption Survey was first conducted by the National Statistical Office (NSO) in 1984 at the request of the Office of the National Energy Policy Committee, with the aim of providing information for national energy planning and policy formulation. At that time, questions on household energy use were incorporated into the Labor Force Survey for two consecutive years. In 1986 , questions on household energy use were incorporated into the expenditure questionnaire of the Household Socio- Economic Survey (SES), which was conducted every two years. Since 2006 , the survey has been conducted annually, collecting data from sample households in all provinces throughout the country, in both municipal and non-municipal areas, excluding households of foreign diplomats and foreign representatives, as well as temporary residents in Thailand.
